The word that ignited my momentum

Uncategorized Jul 09, 2025

In late May I tested a brand new workshop - Unlock Your Vision Board - to see if it would work and help the way I had a sense it would. There were a few of us in the room, including me, and I went through each step with an open mind, uncovering things simmering just beneath the surface and definitely catching a few surprises.

In the end I was bursting with excitement - after 2 hours of creating a series of digital vision boards and answering reflection questions, I came away with fresh, new insight and a special word that told me it is time to pour my heart and energy into getting Wayshow’s offerings into the world.  I also wasn’t the only one walking away with clarity - the workshop creates unmistakable light bulb moments and sense of direction - and so the decision was made to turn Unlock Your Vision Board into our first offer.

I want to share a peak into the word that lit the fire of momentum during the workshop: “Devote.” It means a lot of what discipline conveys (namely consistency and persistence) but was chosen because it is infused with the kind of love and care that fuels you towards something and brings your whole body, mind, and soul in sync with purpose.

I am careful, by design, with the words I choose to narrate my experience and thoughts - I know all too well how the meaning behind words can load or charge our responses to our experiences. Discipline, while often right-minded, nowadays to me feels like the vestiges of an old version of me who poured from an empty cup in ruthless pursuit of the next step regardless of what was happening in or outside of me. It did work - for a time. The experiences of that looked a lot like all nighters at my desk and showing up to build a consulting business at work a mere week after my Dad died to prove my dedication and to catch any opportunity I could, among others. Not surprisingly I burnt out, physically and emotionally, compensated unhealthily, and became detached from my body and inner knowing.

Over the years, in spite of corporate culture and the hustle mentality that built my early career, I found that I am happiest in my feminine - a state of flow that allows creativity and softness to guide my growth and expansion and makes room for all the parts of me while acknowledging the season I am in.

Importantly, it is a state I can sustain. It has led me to create my own opportunities instead of competing for something that seemed like something I should want but wasn’t really. It tells my subconscious I am safe and nurtured while I nurture what I am dedicated to. It allows me to follow my intuition and block the noise of lack and scarcity that can be deafening if we allow it.

Seeing devote come up for me that day after 2 hours of inner work was a message to channel my passion and dedication and run towards my future self with everything I have right now. In the weeks since I feel lit up as I pursue this next chapter while still honoring the fullness of my life and the wellness of my mind and body.
